Meringue Toadstool Circle Of Protection
What you need:
  1. Two egg whites, room temperature
  2. 1/2 cup sugar
  3. 1/2 tsp vanilla
  4. 1/4 tsp tartar
  5. 1 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  6. Cocoa powder
  7. Electric mixer
  8. Plastic food storage
  9. Baking sheet
  10. Foil
  11. Dinner plate, chilled
  12. measuring spoons
  13. Adults help
How to make it:
  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Cover baking sheet with foil and set aside
  3. beat egg whites in glass or metal bowl until foamy
  4. add cream of tartar and vanilla, then gradually add sugar. Continue beating until mixture is shiny and stiff peaks form.
  5. Cut 1/5 inch off one bottom corner of plastic bag. Put some meringue in bag, and squeeze through hole to form 20 stems.
  6. Add 1/4 cup of chocolate chips to rest of meringue, then squeeze 20 round mounds for toadstool caps. Sprinkle lightly with cocoa powder
  7. bake at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour. Cool completely.
  8. Melt 1 cup of chocolate chips in double boiler
  9. Ask an adult to cut small holes with sharp knife in flat side of toadstool cap to insert stem.
  10. Spread chocolate on flat side of cap, filling hole. insert steam and let set upside down.
  11. To make toad stool ring, chill dinner plate or tray. Spread melted chocolate on bottom of finished toadstool's stem. Press lightly onto cold plate and hold briefly until set.
